On reading an invitation to the Spinners in the Pennsylvania
Gazette, Number 2433.
When Julius Caesar rul'd the world, and Rome,
The cloth he wore was spun and wove at home,
His empress play'd the distaff and loom.
Come sister come, your injur'd country calls,
Forsake the toy-shop, toilets, and the balls;
Far nobler arts demand your better care,
That female worth a monument may rear;
. . . [17 lines].
